Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley
Louisa Plowman was born on 30 January 1839 in Blandford St Mary, Dorset, England – the daughter of George Plowman, an agricultural labourer, and Sarah Brewer.
Her father died in the 1840s and, in 1850, Louisa emigrated to South Australia with her mother and brother on the Stag.
Louisa married James Davis on 4 February 1853 in Adelaide. James appears to have died the following year and Louisa re-married to George Latimer on 10 September 1855 at St Paul’s, Adelaide.
Louisa and George moved to Victoria where they had four children before moving to New Zealand where they had a further nine children, three who died in childhood.
When Louisa signed the suffrage petition they were living in Leith St, Dunedin and George was working as a clerk in a pawn office.
Louisa died on 8 September 1911 and George died in 1913, they are both buried in the Northern Cemetery but not in the same grave.
