Elizabeth Ellen Barclay was born in New Zealand in 1873 – the daughter of James Barclay, a publican, and Margaret Stirling, who also signed the petition.

In 1894 she married Andrew Scott Wedderspoon, the proprietor of 'Ormonds Hotel' in Roxburgh. They had three daughters before Andrew died in 1907.

The next year Elizabeth married David Findlay, they had a daughter in 1909.

Elizabeth died on 12 August 1945 in Dunedin. She is buried in the Northern Cemetery with her family. Her sister, Lilias Mary Barclay, also signed the petition.
