Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley

Louisa Margaret Shepard was born in 1854 in Middlesex, England – the daughter of Charles Green Shepard, a carpenter, and Susan Harris.

Louisa emigrated to Canterbury in 1859 with her parents & two younger brothers on the Strathallan.

She married Walter Bull, a fruiterer, in 1879. They had 5 daughters & when Louisa signed the suffrage petition the family were living in George St, Dunedin.

Louisa and Walter were members of the Trinity Methodist Church for many years, Walter died in 1928 and Louisa died on October 7th 1929.

At a church meeting after Louisa’s death the members stood in silence for a few moments as a mark of respect.

They were both cremated, Louisa’s ashes are interred in the niche wall at the Andersons Bay Cemetery.
