Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley
Lizzie/Elizabeth Mary Strain was born in 1851 in New Zealand – the daughter of William Strain and Bessy Annie Moore.
She lived her early years in Dunedin before her family moved to Tokomairiro where they had a farm.
After her father’s death in 1881 Lizzie went to live in Oamaru with her mother for a few years before returning to Tokomairiro where she signed the suffrage petition at Milburn, near Milton.
In later years Lizzie went to live at Mosgiel where she died on 27 September 1929 – she is probably buried with her parents in the Fairfax Cemetery, Milton.
