Elizabeth/Lizzie McAulay was born on 18 October 1871 in Dalry, Ayrshire, Scotland – the daughter of David McAulay, a pit head man, and Helen Kernohan.
She emigrated to New Zealand with her family in 1876 on the “City of Dunedin” and they settled in Blue Spur, near Lawrence in Central Otago.
When Elizabeth signed the suffrage petition she was living in St Clair, Dunedin with her sister Ellen. (See 68 Nellie McAulay)

They lived in Dunedin and had one daughter before Elizabeth died at her home on 3 August 1900 – she is buried in the Northern Cemetery.
When and where James died is unclear.
