Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley

Laura Kate Merry was born in 1870 in New Zealand – the daughter of John Nicklin Merry, a draper, and Eliza Price.

When Laura signed the suffrage petition she was living with her family in Filleul St.

She married Edward Lyng, a confectioner, in 1899 and they had five children.

Edward died in 1937 and Laura died at her daughter’s home on 30 March 1949.

They are buried in the family grave in the Andersons Bay Cemetery.
