Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley
Lottie Wedlake was born in 1864 in Cornwall – the daughter of Frederick Wedlake, a miner, and Elizabeth Beswetherick.
Her parents came to New Zealand in the late 1860s leaving their children with Frederick’s parents in Cornwall.
In 1874 Lottie, accompanied by her brother and two cousins, emigrated to Otago on the Asia. She joined her parents at Blue Spur near Lawrence and attended the Blue Spur school.
Lottie did not marry and she signed the suffrage petition in Dunedin, possibly while staying with her brother’s family in Forth St (See 46 M E Wedlake) giving her address as Lawrence.
In the late 1890s Lottie’s parents moved to Dunedin and she came with them.
She died on 29 March 1939 in Dunedin and is buried in the family grave in the Northern Cemetery
