Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley

Annie Letitia Henderson was born in 1864 in New Zealand – the daughter of Walter Henderson and Janet Kinross.

She grew up in Invercargill and Bluff and she married Andrew Young, a schoolmaster in September 1886 at Bluff. 'The vessels in port and all business places which bear flagstaffs being decorated with bunting...At the conclusion of the fortnightly Band of Hope meeting at the Bluff', Annie 'who has closed her services as organist, was the recipient of a handsome marble clock and electro-plated cake stand.'

They had two children and when Annie signed the suffrage petition the family were living in Bluff.

Andrew died in 1924 and Annie died on 9 September 1941, they are buried in the Henderson family grave in the Bluff Cemetery.
