Letitia Thomson was born about 1838 in Ireland.
She married James Browne in Greenock, Scotland in 1859 and they had seven children, one who died in infancy.
In 1874 the family boarded the Berar bound for New Zealand. During the voyage, on 16 November, Letitia gave birth to a son and three weeks later their one-year-old son John died of scarlatina.
The family settled in Napier where their last two children were born.
When Letitia signed the suffrage petition she was living in Milton Rd, Napier – on the 1896 electoral roll Letitia was shown as a widow.
She died on 29 January 1901 – where she is buried is unclear.
