Lexey Carnegie Dunbar was born about 1843 in Kincardineshire, Scotland – the daughter of John Dunbar, a carpenter, and Ann Ayre.

She emigrated to New Zealand and she married John James Lane, an accountant, on 5 September 1870 at Waihola.

They had 10 children and lived in Milton where Lexey signed the suffrage petition.

John died in 1896 and Lexey died at her home in Milton on 26 September 1912. They are buried in the family grave in the Fairfax Cemetery, Milton.
