Lidia/Lydia Louisa Hunt was born in Berkshire, England in 1871 – the daughter of Noah Hunt, an agricultural labourer, and Maria Davis.
Sometime after the 1871 census was taken the family name changed to Mortimer.
They emigrated to Otago in 1874 on the Scimitar and the family settled in Hampden in North Otago.
Lydia married Leopold Henry Thomas Botting, a miner, in 1892 and they had 10 children.
When Lydia signed the suffrage petition they were living in Livingstone.
In later years they moved to Edendale in Southland where Leopold died in 1921.
Lydia died on 6 July 1953, she is buried with Leopold in the Edendale Cemetery.
