Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley

Lillias/Lily Oswald was born about 1839, possibly in Scotland.

She emigrated to Otago and she married William Wilkie Taylor, a painter and decorator, in 1864.

They lived, at first, in Dunedin before moving to Milton where Lillias signed the suffrage petition.

They had five children – James served on the borough council and also served as Mayor for a time.

He died in 1917 and Lillias died at Palmerston North on 28 March 1921, they are buried together in the Fairfax Cemetery, Milton.
