Lily Elizabeth Davies was born in 1872 in London, England – the daughter of Robert Davies and Maria Stokes.
She emigrated to Otago with her family in 1874 on the “Sussex” and they settled in Dunedin.
In 1883 her father abandoned the family and when Lily signed the suffrage petition she was living with her mother and siblings in Mornington.
She married Robert Walter Howison, a clerk, in 1903 and they had two daughters.
They moved to Wellington where Robert died in 1932 and Lily died on 23 May 1967 – they are buried together in the Karori Cemetery.
