Emily Maud Peake (known as Lily) was born in 1872 in New Zealand – the daughter of James Frederick Peake, an importer, and Agnes Barton Mackie Jago. (See 99 Agnes Peake)
When she signed the suffrage petition, Lily was living in the family home 'Whareki' in Leith St, Dunedin.
She married, at her home, on 11 October 1899.
Her husband James Alexander Burt was an accountant and they had three children, one who died in infancy.
James died in 1918 at his home in Dunedin. After James’ death, in 1926, Lily travelled to England and the continent with her daughter Molly for two years.
Her daughter married in England in 1935 and Lily was visiting when her daughter died in 1939.
Lily died in Dunedin on 29 September 1944, she is buried with James in the family grave in the Northern Cemetery.
