124 Lizzie Gardner

Elizabeth Anne Gardner was born in 1863 in New Zealand – the eldest child on Joseph Greenwood Gardner & Anne Savage.

When Elizabeth signed the suffrage petition she was living with her widowed father in High St, Maori Hill working as a dressmaker.

Her father died in 1899 and in 1902, Elizabeth married William Apes, a widower & farmer.

They lived at Karitane, north of Dunedin and had two children before William died in 1912 – he is buried in the Puketeraki Cemetery.

Elizabeth died at her home in Waikouaiti on 19 November 1933 – she is buried in the Hawksbury Cemetery.
