Louisa Fairey was born in 1839 in London, England – the daughter of Joseph Fairey, a watch maker, and Esther Hack.

She married John Edward Baker, a painter, in 1860 and they had five children, one who died in infancy. Her daughter Louisa was born in 1869.

The family emigrated to Otago in 1874 on the “James Nicol Fleming” and they settled in Dunedin where their last child was born.

When the suffrage petition was signed the family were living in Brunel St, Mornington & Louisa jnr. was working as a tailoress.

Louisa snr. died on 19 May 1911 and John died in 1916 – they are buried together in the Andersons Bay Cemetery.

Louisa jnr. married William James Paterson, a watchmaker, on 13 September 1895 – they had three children, one who died in infancy.

She died on 3 November 1937 and William died in 1958 – they are buried in the family grave in the Andersons Bay Cemetery.
