Biography contribued by Katherine Blakeley
Louisa Augusta Dorothy Basse was born in Whitechapel, London in 1870 – the daughter of John Basse, a sugar baker, and Dorothea Bade. Both her parents were from Germany.
In 1874 the family emigrated to Port Chalmers on the Otago.
Louisa attended the North Dunedin school and they lived in Ravensbourne on the Otago Harbour.
In 1881 her father died and after this they moved to Gore where her mother’s sister lived. (See 123 E Rambaum)
Louisa’s mother died in 1884 and she presumably lived with her relatives at Mandeville, where she signed the suffrage petition.
Louisa married labourer Joseph Charles Horrobin in 1900 and they had one son.
They lived in Wellington where Joseph died in 1941 and Louisa died on 26 August 1943 – they were both cremated & their ashes are interred in the Karori Cemetery.
