Louisa Alice Brien Burns was born in 1871 in New Zealand - the daughter of Thomas Burns, an engineer, and Mary.

She married George Driver, a bootmaker, in 1890.

They had two children and when Louisa signed the suffrage petition they were living in Eden St, Dunedin.

They later moved to Timaru then to Fairlie where Louisa died on 2 October 1937 and George died in 1945 – they are buried together in the Fairlie Cemetery.
