Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley

Louisa Macdonell was born on 16 September 1869 in Dores, Invernesshire, Scotland – the daughter of Patrick MacDonell, a farmer, and Ann Sinclair.

She emigrated to New Zealand around 1880, possibly accompanied by her sisters Annie and Ellen who also emigrated.

When Louisa signed the suffrage petition she was living in Mataura. She died in Dunedin on 22 January 1956 and is buried in the Andersons Bay Cemetery.
