Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley
Louisa Whicello Hawkins was born in 1854 in Uxbridge, Middlesex, England – the daughter of Richard Hawkins, a shoemaker, and Mary Southam Whichello.
Louisa emigrated to New Zealand in the late 1870s and appears to have married William Philp, a carpenter, about 1876 although no marriage record can be found.
They had seven children, two who died in childhood, and when Louisa signed the suffrage petition the family were living in Prince Edward Rd, St Kilda, Dunedin.
William died in 1916 and Louisa re-married in 1920 to Alexander Walter Paull, a widower.
Alexander died in 1927, he is buried with his first wife in the Andersons Bay Cemetery.
Louisa died on 13 May 1941, she is buried with William and three of her sons in the Southern Cemetery.
