Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley

Lucy Matilda Freeman was born in 1871 in New Zealand — the daughter of Joseph Freeman, a painter, and Janet Anne MacDonald. (See 160 Janet Freeman)

When she signed the suffrage petition Lucy was living with her family in Ann St, Roslyn.

She married Arthur Sunderland, a plumber, in 1895. They had two children, one who died in infancy.

Arthur died in 1944 and Lucy died on 24 September 1957, she was cremated and her ashes buried in the family grave with Arthur.
