Lucy Ann Smith, my great aunt, was born 3 August 1868 at Lyttelton. She was the daughter of Mary Ann Sarah Smith, nee Graham, and Charles Smith.

Lucy's father was a Swedish born mariner, Olof Sundvall, who changed his name to Smith.
He was lost at sea in October 1883 when his schooner 'Wild Wave' foundered on a voyage from Lyttelton to Havelock in the Marlborough Sounds.

Lucy appears to have lived most of her life in the Christchurch area and nursed her mother Mary until Mary died in 1921.

Lucy did not marry. She kept in contact with her family in Christchurch and Lyttelton. Her birthday book, which I have, contains the names of family and Lyttelton people who arrived on the first four ships.

Lucy died 9 March 1949 and is buried with her mother in the cemetery in Lyttelton.
