Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley.

Lydia Eliza Roll was born in London in 1839 – the daughter of Edward Roll and Lydia Brown.

She married Thomas Annison, a plasterer, in 1860 and they had six children.

The family emigrated to New Zealand in the late 1870’s and they settled, at first, in Lawrence before moving to Dunedin.

When Lydia signed the suffrage petition the family were living in Broughton St, South Dunedin.

Lydia died on 24 April 1903 while visiting her son in Auckland and Thomas died in 1923 – they are buried in the family grave in the Southern Cemetery.
