Mary Ann Cook was born in 1872 in New Zealand – the daughter of James Cook, a farmer, and Mary Mathers.

She lived with her family at Burnside, near Dunedin and when she signed the suffrage petition, she gave her occupation as, artist.

Mary exhibited paintings with the Otago Art Society in Dunedin and received glowing reviews of her work.

Her father died in 1908 and her mother in 1919.

Mary married Henry Stansfield, a proofreader, on November 1st 1920 at Knox Church.

She died suddenly at her home in Burnside on August 29th 1928 and is buried with her parents in the Southern Cemetery.  

Henry died in 1946 – he is buried with his parents in the Andersons Bay Cemetery.
