Mary Cushnan was born on July 9th 1866 in County Antrim, Ireland, the daughter of Henry Cushnan, a labourer, and Mary Ann Donnelly.
She emigrated to Otago with her family in 1875 on the City of Dunedin and they settled in Palmerston.
When she signed the suffrage petition she was living with her family at Goodwood, working as a dressmaker.
She married William Hally, a miner, in 1897. They lived in Hyde before retiring to Dunedin.
William died there in 1925. He is buried in the Palmerston Cemetery.
Mary moved to New Plymouth where her sister Martha was living, and died there on June 30th 1935. Where she is buried in unclear.
