Mary Dick Sparrow was born on 14 June 1865 in Greenock, Renfrewshire, Scotland – the daughter of John Sparrow, an engine driver, and Ann Dick.
She emigrated to Otago with her family in 1874 on the Mairi Bhan, and settled in Dunedin.
When Mary signed the suffrage petition she was living with her family in Hyde St, Dunedin.
She married David McPherson Miller, a grocer, in 1896 and they had one daughter.
David died suddenly in Dunedin in 1937, he is buried in the Andersons Bay Cemetery.
Mary died on 12 February 1945 at her daughter’s home in Christchurch, she is buried in the Ruru Lawn Cemetery, Christchurch.
