Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley
Mary Elizabeth Moore was born on 12 April 1867 in Bothwell, Lanarkshire, Scotland – the daughter of Richard Moore and Kitty Hocking.
She emigrated to New Zealand with her parents about 1870 and they settled at Naseby in Central Otago.
Mary married Garibaldi Botting, a butcher, on 20 August 1884 at her parents’ home in Naseby and they had seven children.
The family lived at Naseby but appear to have spent a short time at Livingstone in the 1890s where Mary signed the suffrage petition.
In 1901 the family moved to Dunedin where Mary died on 27 December 1930.
Garibaldi died in 1943 in Christchurch, they are buried together in the Karitane Cemetery.
