Mary Elizabeth Merry was born in Launceston, Tasmania, Australia on 29 March 1859 – the daughter of John Nicklin Merry, a draper, and Eliza Price.
The family moved to Otago about 1862 and settled in Dunedin.
When Mary signed the suffrage petition she was living with her family in Filleul St.
She married George Lynn, a painter, in 1893 and they had one son.
Mary died at their son’s home in Dunedin on 30 August 1942, she is buried in the Andersons Bay Cemetery.
George died in Wellington in 1955, he was cremated and his ashes were buried with Mary in the family grave.
