Mary French Balloch was born in 1869 in New Zealand, the daughter of George Balloch, a baker, and Mary Lamb.
Mary’s father died when she was fifteen years old and left the family in a poor financial situation.
Mary married William Henry Jackson Ledgerwood, a tailor, in 1890. They had eight children and lived in South Dunedin.
William died in 1946. Mary died on 23 June 23 1961. They are buried in the family grave in the Andersons Bay Cemetery, Dunedin.
