Maren/Marian Sofie Jensen was born on 1 March 1868 in Raklev. Holbaek, Denmark – the daughter of Peder Jensen and Karen Rasmussen. (See 28 K Jensen)
She emigrated to New Zealand with her family in 1872 on the Palmerston and they settled in Dunedin.
Marian married David Thomas Gibbard, a draper, in 1890. They had two children and when Marian signed the suffrage petition they were living in Palmerston, north of Dunedin.
The family moved around Central Otago for several years before they settled in Westport in the 1900s.
David died in 1932 in Westport and Marian died on 1 July 1961 in Nelson, they are buried together in the Orowaiti Cemetery, Westport.
