Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley

Mary/Minnie Gilmore was born about 1866 in County Down, Ireland.

She came to New Zealand to join members of her family and when she signed the suffrage petition she was living in Rattray St, Dunedin working as a 'lady’s help'. Also in Rattray St was her sister Catherine. (See 55 Sissie J Ferens)

In 1909 Minnie, and a lady friend, went on an overseas trip. They visited London, Paris and Switzerland then on their return to London 'will proceed to Dublin via Yorkshire and the English Lakes. In Dublin they will stay with Miss Gilmore’s borther, the Rev. J D Gilmore, formerly of Auckland. Afterwards they will visit Killarney, Belfast (Miss Gilmore’s native town), Scotland and Cheltenham. While on tour they intend to pick up the latest ideas in ladies’ tailoring.'

They returned to Dunedin in January 1910.

Minnie died on 7 March 1955 in Dunedin, she was cremated and her ashes scattered.
