Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley

Margaret (Maggie) Groves was born in 1862 in Victoria, Australia, the daughter of Charles Groves and Mary McGill.

Maggie’s father disappears from the records at this time. In November 1862, Maggie travelled to Otago with her mother and sister on the City of Hobart.

Maggie did not marry. When she signed the suffrage petition she was living in the family home in Cargill St, Dunedin. Her mother Mary also signed the petition.

Maggie died at Cargill St on 11 August 1942. She is buried in the family grave in the Andersons Bay Cemetery.
