Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley

Mary Ann Fulton Leitch was born about 1839 in Lochgilphead, Argyll, Scotland – the daughter of James Leitch, a smith, and Elizabeth.

She married John Hall, a stonemason, on 28 August 1863 in Lochgilphead and soon after they emigrated to Otago.

They had nine children, three of who died in infancy, and when Mary Ann signed the suffrage petition the family were living in Castle St, Dunedin.

John died in 1904 and Mary Ann died on 14 April 1916, they are buried in the family grave in the Northern Cemetery.
