Marian Jane Oswald was born in 1859 in Victoria, Australia – the daughter of James Oswald and Elizabeth Tritner.
She came to New Zealand with her parents in 1863 and they settled in Dunedin.
In 1883 Marian gave birth to a son and she married Samuel Harwood the following year.
They had a further six children and when Marian signed the suffrage petition the family were living in Sydney St, Caversham.
Four of their sons served in WW1 – three were wounded but they all returned home.
Marian died on 8 December 1917 in Dunedin – she is buried in the family grave in the Southern Cemetery.
Where and when Samuel died is unclear.
