Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley.
Margaret was born about 1846.
She and her husband James Herbert arrived in New Zealand in the 1860’s where they had four children, one who died in infancy.
In 1888 their daughter Jemima died and two days later six week old Charles also died. Charles was registered as Margaret and James’ son but he was possibly Jemima’s son. They are buried together in the Northern Cemetery.
When Margaret signed the suffrage petition the family were living in North East Valley, Dunedin.
They later moved to Invercargill where Margaret died at her daughter’s home on 2 May 1929 and James died in 1935 – they are buried together in the Invercargill Eastern Cemetery.
