Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley

Margaret Gardiner was born about 1847 in Scotland.

She married Thomas Horne in 1877 in St Giles and soon after they boarded the Oamaru bound for Otago.

They don’t appear to have had any children but they had an adopted daughter.

When Margaret signed the suffrage petition they were dairy farming at Henley, south of Dunedin.

They later moved to Wendonside in Southland where Margaret died on 7 July 1901 – she is buried in the Riversdale Cemetery.

Thomas died in Seacliff Asylum in 1911 – he is buried in the Andersons Bay Cemetery.
