Mary Jane Beck (known as Pollie) was born in New Zealand in 1862 - the daughter of Albert James Beck and Jane Hall Murray. Her older sister, Jeannie Lyall, also signed the petition.
On 2 January 1886, at her parent’s house in Walker St, Dunedin, Mary married William Leonard Tennet, a draper.
They had eight children and two died in infancy.
Mary died on 7 August 1921 and William in 1941. They are buried together in the Southern Cemetery.
