Marion Baxter was born about 1847 in Cranston, Midlothian, Scotland – the daughter of Robert Baxter, a coal miner, and Christina Kerr.
She married David Ker, a joiner, on 8 April 1870 in Edinburghshire, Scotland and they had two daughters before the family emigrated to Otago in 1872 on the Christian McAusland.
They had a further six children after their arrival and when Marion signed the suffrage petition the family were living in Manor Place, Dunedin.
Marion died at her home in Dunedin on 6 September 1922, she is buried in the family grave in the Southern Cemetery.
David died in Oamaru in 1927 and is buried in the Oamaru Cemetery.
