Margaret Lawson Marr was born in 1857 in London – the daughter of James Marr, a shipwright, and Isabella Graham.
She emigrated to Canterbury with her family in 1873 on the James Nicol Fleming and they settled in Dunedin.
Margaret married John Alexander Duthie, an auctioneer, on 14 April 1884 in Dunedin.
They had seven children and when Margaret signed the suffrage petition the family were living in Milton.
They moved to Dunedin in the 1900s. John died at Lovell’s Flat in 1933 and Margaret died on 17 May 1946 in Dunedin.
They are buried together in the Fairfax Cemetery, Milton.
