Mary Ann Grundy was born about 1828 in Herefordshire, England.

She married Charles Lefose Lemon, a butler, in 1858 in Birmingham.

They had two sons before the family emigrated to Otago in 1874 on the Scimitar.

They settled in Dunedin and when Mary signed the suffrage petition they were living in Grosvenor St, Kensington.

Mary died on 14 November 1906 and Charles died in 1913 – they are buried together in the Southern Cemetery.
