Biographical information provided by Briar Barry for the He Tohu exhibition:

Mary Margaret Lorenzen (known as Margaret) was born in 1867. She was married three times. First to a Mr Platt and then to Hans Peter Lorenzen. Mr Lorenzen hanged himself in the Auckland Domain as part of a suicide pact with two other men in October 1902. Margaret and Hans had been separated for some time when he died as she had borne four children to John William Corr by 1902 (the children are listed on the New Zealand birth register under Lorenzen but Corr is named as their father). Just months after her husband’s death, Margaret married Corr when she was 35. John worked as a cook on Queen Street. Only one child was born after Margaret and John married, Leslie Corr born 1905, but died 1906 age 15 months.
