Margaret Moat Munro was born on 6 August 1859 in Lanarkshire, Scotland – the daughter of George Munro, a monumental sculptor, and Mary Ann Lewis. (See 68 M A Munro)
She emigrated to Otago with her family in 1861 on the “Silistria” and they settled in Dunedin.
Margaret married William Henry Melton, an ironmonger, in 1886.
When Margaret signed the suffrage petition they were living in Victoria St, St Clair.
She died on 13 April 1900 in Dunedin – she is buried with her sister in the Southern Cemetery.
William died in Milton in 1952 – he was cremated and his ashes were scattered.
