Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley.

Mary Ann/Marian Lennon was born about 1860 in Ireland, the daughter of Hugh Lennon & Elizabeth.

She emigrated to New Zealand with her family in 1883 on the Westmeath & she married George Edwin Mabe, a mariner, in 1886.

They had 6 children, 2 who died in infancy, & when Marian signed the suffrage petition they were living in Castle St, Dunedin.

By 1895 the family were in Auckland – Marian & George appear to have parted company at some stage.

By 1917, when her mother died, Marian was living in Sydney where 2 of her daughters were living.

George died in Auckland in 1921, he was buried in the Waikaraka Cemetery - in his will he left all he owned to their son Walter.

Marian died in Sydney in May 1924, she is buried in the Randwick General Cemetery.
