Margaret McIntyre was born on 28 February 1857 in Aberfoyle, Perthshire, Scotland – the daughter of John McIntyre, a carpenter, and Ann McGregor.
She emigrated to New Zealand with her family in the mid 1870s and they settled in Dunedin.
When Margaret signed the suffrage petition she was living with her family in Kelvin Grove, North East Valley working as a hat trimmer.
She died in Dunedin on 14 November 1939 and is buried in the family grave in the Northern Cemetery.
