Margaret, also known as, Margaretta Grant MacKay was born about 1862 in Scotland.

When she signed the suffrage petition she was living in East Gore working as an agent.

She married travelling salesman, Ernest Reginald Boddy on 14 April 1897 at the Coffee Palace in Dunedin.

They lived in Gore and had two sons.

Ernest died in 1913 and in later life Margaret moved to Dunedin where she died on 3 October 1944 – she is buried with Ernest in the Gore Cemetery.
