Mary married Henry Albert Barnes, a letterpress machinist on 14 August 1900, at Auburn, New South Wales, Australia. They came to live in New Zealand and had four children.

Mary died on 25 December 1933 and Henry died in 1938. They are buried together in the Bromley Cemetery in Christchurch.
