Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley

Marion Muirhead was born in 1866 in New Zealand – the daughter of Robert Muirhead, a farmer, and Catherine Waddell.

When she signed the suffrage petition Marion was living with her family in Mosgiel south of Dunedin working in a factory.

She married David Bowie, a railway surfaceman, on 6 September 1904 at her parent’s home in Mosgiel – they do not appear to have had any children.

Marion died, while visiting Christchurch, on 16 August 1943 and David died in 1950, they are buried together in the East Taieri Cemetery.
