Mary Ann Creede Corcoran/Cochran was born about 1857 in New York, USA – daughter of Edward Wesby Cocoran, a brewer, and Margaret Creede.
Mary Ann’s family came to New Zealand in the mid 1860s. Her mother died of the complications of childbirth in 1871. Her father re-married the same year.
Mary Ann married George Newton, a presser, in 1878 and they had five children. Mary Ann died at her home - Main South Road, Caversham – on 30 December 1909. She is buried with her mother in the Southern Cemetery. George re-married in 1912, he died in 1937 and is buried in the Andersons Bay Cemetery with his second wife.
