Matilda Parsons Cannon was born about 1835 in England.
She emigrated to Australia and she married George William Harvey in 1854 in Victoria.
They came to New Zealand in the early 1860s and they had four sons between 1863 and 1872 in New Zealand.
George worked as a solicitor moving the family between Dunedin and Hokitika several times.
He served time as a District Court Judge before he died in 1889 in Dunedin.
When Matilda signed the suffrage petition she was living in Stafford St, Dunedin.
She died on 27 July 1919 and is buried with George in the family grave in the Northern Cemetery.
