My great-grandmother Mary Ann [Macara] Payton 1845-1924, was born in Munzie, Perth, Scotland and went to NZ 1865 with her parents William Macara 1799-1891 and Mary [Haldane] Macara 1809-1889, and siblings.
Mary Ann Macara married 1876 Joseph Payton 1843-1910, newspaper proprietor and founder of the Wairarapa Times Age. They had five children.
